THE ORIGINS OF OUR WATCHES
Our first collection of watches dedicated to the Aston Martin BD5 was born from a desire to pay tribute to one of the most emblematic cars in automotive history. As always at Atelier Jalaper, our watches are the result of the meeting of two worlds that we love above all: automotive heritage and watchmaking tradition. We designed them with this unique vision in mind, while integrating a real piece of Aston Martin DB5 and subtle references to the design of the British legend. All our watches are limited-edition.
A MEN’S WATCH WITH A UNIQUE CONCEPT
Combining automotive heritage and watchmaking was a real technical challenge. After a year of R&D, we were finally able to transform an Aston Martin DB5 bonnet into a real watch dial. All the dials that equip our watches have a unique patina that reflects the authenticity and history of this bonnet: scratches and chips. All watches in the DB5 collection are assembled in Switzerland.
MADE FROM AN ASTON MARTIN DB5
Each of the watches in the collection has a dial directly cut from an Aston Martin DB5 bonnet that has been authenticated by Aston Martin Works in London. To transform the raw part of one of the most legendary British cars into a real watch dial, it was first necessary to cut the aluminum, flatten and process it in order to be able to stamp our dials. They were then laser engraved to reveal the indexes reminiscent of the car’s speedometer, while retaining the patina that makes each watch unique. Finally, the integration of the automatic movement and the assembly in its steel case case
(black due to the PVD treatment) took place entirely in our Swiss atelier in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
WATCH DESIGN PROCESS
The crucial design process took a year and a half of hard work, back and forth with our designers and several prototypes. Above all, we wanted the design of our watch to reflect the full power of the Aston Martin DB5’s history. Therefore, The AJ002-B has subtle references to the legendary British car.
